ARAHURA FAT STOCK SALE
At the above yards yesterday tie usual fixture was held when 62 fat sheep and 71 head of fat cattle weie offered to public competition to a representative attendance of buyers. There was again a very heavy yarding of cow and heifer beef, but notwithstanding this competition was even througout the sale and prices did not show any depreciation compared with the last one or two fixtures and if anything showe da firming tendency. Messrs W. Jeffries and Co sold as follows:—On account Mr J. McGregor, 42 fat wethers at 24s Od, 20 at 22s 3d. On account Mr Leo Haddock,2 lieiieis ut £9 ss, 1 at £B, 3 at £5 ss, l cow at 09 ss, 1 at £8 7s Od, lat £S, l at £•->, 1 .veaier at £2 10s, 3 ditto at £2 Is, and 2 ditto at £1 12s. On account Mr W O’Reillv, 1 steer at £9 ss, 2 at £< 10s. lat £7,2atGO 17s Od, 2at £6, 1 cow at £8 ss, 1 at C 5, 2 heifers at ps .- )S 2at £7 17s Od. 2at £5 10s. On account Mr W. Oklerog, 2 vealers at £2 12s, 1 cow at £5 10s. On account Messrs Ferguson Bros, 1 heifers at £8 10« 2 at £7, 0 at £5 Lis, 2at £5, 5 cows at £Bl7s Od, 3at £8 10s. 3at £7. 5 at £0 10s. 2 at £6 and 2 at £5 10s.
M. Houston and Co. report:—At the above yards yesterday our entry consisted of 68 fat sheep and 28 bead of cattle. There was a goo<l attendance of buyers, and the yarding was cleared at prices somewhat on a par with those of last sale. We sold 34 fat ewes and wethers at 22/3, 34 ewes and wethers at 22/- on account Messrs Anderson Bros. ;On account of Air J. Adamson, 3 bullocks at £l3/10/-, 2 at £l3/2/6, 1 at £l4/7/6, 4 at £ll/10/-. 2 at £lO/17/0. 2 at £B/15/-, 2 at £9/5/-, 1 prime veaier at £7/5/-;. On account of Air G. Tf. Fertmson, 1 steer at £4/5/-, 1 bullock at £ll/2/6. 1 cow at £B/12/6, 1 at £°. 2 heifers and I cow at £B/15/-, 2 heifers at £B/15/-, 2 c-ows at £6/5/-.
MOTION OF SYAfPATH V
Just belore the commencement of the A rail ura fat stock sale yesterday reference was made to the death of the late Air George H. Robinson, and in opening the sale Mr Houston referred to the tragic suddenness of Mr Robinson’s demise, lie being a well known figure attending the local yards off and on for manv years. 01 a genial disposition. Mr Robinson had lived all bis life on the Coast and had few compeers in this district as a judge of stock. Cut off in the prime of manhoid, his death came as a great shock to the community and his loss will he deeply deplored. Ho moved that a letter of condolence from ill,, graziers, butchers and others present be sent to the Robinson family expressing their deep sympathy in the verv great loss sustained by them.
In supporting the motion Mr W. Jeffries expressed his deep regret at the death of Mr Robinson of whom the family name had long been associated with the predecessors of his firm. The late .Mr Henry Leslie Robinson succeeded as principal many years ago to the late Alark Sprot, and it was probably within the memory of a great many present (he wide business influence exercised in this district by that gentleman. The deceased had followed in the footsteps of his father and up to a very recent date had been associated with the late firm both here and in Grey'mouth. Of a remarkably cheerful disposition, the laic Air Robinson was probable better known throughout the (Vest ('oast than any other person engaged in stuck dealing. Deep sympathy would he expressed throughout the Coast for Airs Robinson and family, and he supported the motion with deep regret.
Mr Donnelly, speaking on behalf of his firm at Greymouth, briefly voiced the feelings of his principals at the untimely end of tho deceased Air Robinson. lie had been in close connection with him for a considerable time and it would he admitted by all that lie was akeen business man and though he could drive a hard bargain he was always willing to meet his clients hall way, and his loss at quite an early age would lie very generally deplored. He supported I lie motion wit h considerable feelings of sorrow. The motion was tlitui carried in silence, all those present
uncovering. Mr Houston undertook to convey the resolution to the Robinson family.
