NAUTICAL WEDDING. TIMAIIU, June 8,

Probably the first nautical wedding here was celebrated to-day, when Mr If. J. Thmnan, second officer s.s. Kini, was married at the Anglican Church to Miss Phoebe Grither, second daughter of .Aland Mrs Grither , of Merivale, Christchurch.

The chief officer, Mr McGregor, gave away the bride, and all the officers of the ship attended in uniform. -The officers gave presents, and the crew a teaset, and the steamer was gaily decorated for the occasion. The young couple went south for the day, and the officer with rejoin his ship to-morrow. They will make their home in Wellington.

FIRE IN WELLINGTON

WELLINGTON, -June 11

A fire occurred this afternoon in a wooden building at the corner of Bowen Street and Lambton Quay, occupied by Smith, the clothier. The fire broke out in ail upper storey, wliio'i was let in separate rooms. The outbreak originated in a room occupied by Anderson, chiropodist, which was completely gutted, and the contents were destroyed. The brigade soon got the (lames under. The damage done to other moms was mostly by water. It is understood the building and contents were insured.
