KIRKWOOD’S SUCCESS. lUBTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. LONDON, June 9. Kirkwood beat Havers at the 20th hole. A crowd of 3000 applauded the victor. Kirkwood won thc first bole brilliantly, lost the next two, halved tile next and lost the fifth against a gale of wind. He reached the .sixth in two and won with four. He took three putts at the seventh, but halved and lost the next one. He was down at the ninth. Havers got a brilliant four at the tenth bole. Fully exposed to the gale he halved the 11th and 12th in three and four. The match was square at the Kith. Havers ball at the 17th struck a spectator, and bis second shot deflected to the green. Kirkwood failed to reach the green in two and lost the bole but squared at the 18th. Both took fives at the 19th but had seconds on the green at the 20th which Kirkwood nearly holed in three. Havers overputted and missed the return. Kirkwood meets Renouf in the semifinal. He played with great determination. LONDON, June 10 Playing Yard oil, Kirkwood held the lead from the beginning. After being two up and three to play, he lost the 16th and 17th holes, but the match finished at the 19th, Kirkwood hitting a magnificent second with an iron shot. This stroke won the match.
