LONDON, June 8. In the final qualifying rounds of the golf at Glen Eagles Kirkwood did thirty five over the Queen’s bioiirse and seventytwo over the King’s, including an extra stroke, owing to a marker s error. The results of fiity four holes a,ro—Ray 212, Havers, Hutchinson (America) 213, Ockenden 214, Kirkwood Vardon 217, Braid, Renoug 218. Two other Americans (Hugen and French) also Mitchell, qualified. Duncan failed. Kirkwood is feeling confident and his wrist is improving. Tt is expected ho will be all rgb't to-morrow, when he plays "Vardon.
Tl IE AM ATE UR CHA M PIONSHIP. LONDON, May 27. W. T. Hunter, of Deal, beat Graham, of tlie Royal Liverpool Club in the final of the amateur gold championship at Holy lake by 12 up and 11 to play. The wonderful score is a feat breaking all British records. After a delay of more than an hour owing to the miniature lakes which had formed over the coursef and the fact that the holes were under water, Hunter and Graham drove off in drenching rain for the final of tho amateur championship. Hunter imlmediately rushed away, playing confidently and brilliantly. He did not lose a hole until the thirteenth, and finished the first round 9 up. Ton thousand people witnessed the second round. Though the course was still sodden the youngster played like, a man inspired, and with sheer golf wizardy overwhelmed his opponent, v took only two holes. Both players are Scotchmen, though they 7 learnt to (day in England. Hunter has the advantage of youth being 29 to his opponent’s 38. He is a post office telegraphist, and makes the championship his annual holiday. He is sturdy and confident and has the swing of a horn golfer. It transpires! that Graham played in tho final at a tragic disadvantage, expecting news of his father’s death.
