TO-MORROW’S GAMES
The fixtures for to-morrow on Cass Square arc tho junior game, Excelsiors v. Iloss at 1.30 p.m., and the Town v. Country match at 3 p.m. The teams for the latter gamo comprise tho pick of the strength of the various clubs competing in the senior competition, and if they shake down into some sort of combination a good game should result. The country team will play in black and white jerseys and the town team in the representative colors, red and black. Mr D. It. Dowell will referee. As the game will be a trial ong to enable the selectors to pick the team to represent Westland subunion against Inangahua sub-union at Greymouth the following Saturday, the players should he on their mettle to prove their right to inclusion. The game should therefore give a good criterion of the ability of the players and prove an interesting one to watch. All games in the senior competition have been postponed to enable selected players to take part.
TOWN TEAM. The following will represent tbe town team: Forwards: Devaney, Elsmore, Rutherford, Cutbush, Perham, Aitken, Walker Don Fraser. Backs: half, Bethune; five-eigliths, Irving and W. Ross; threequarters. Wogan, McMnnaway, Owens; full-back. Hon Ross. Emergencies: Forwards. Freitas and Thompson; backs, Moore and (MacDonald. All the above players are requested to meet at the Drill Shed at 7.30 sharp this evening. WESTLAND SUB-UNION.
At the meeting of the Westland Rugby sub-union on Wednesday evening there were present—Messrs D. R. Dowell (in the chair), T. Gillooly, ,T. J. Breeze. Woods. Seebcrk, Hnrker. Cutbush. Heslnn. O’Brien, Osmers, Lamont, >T. Keenan, Hagar. and E. W. Heemn (Secretary).
The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed.
A protest was entered by Ross Club re a score supposed to be obtained by Muir and not awarded.— Received; The protest was dismissed.
Notice of motion from last meeting that the fixtures for June 11 tli. he post, poned and played at the end of the round, and that a Town v. Country match be played on .Tune Tlth. was carried unanimously. Mr R. R. Dowell , was appointed referee. Notice of motion.—Mr O’Brien moved that tho minute on books respecting recommendation of Referees Association for appointing of referees be rescinded.
It was resolved to arrange for a special train on June 18tli. to leave at 12 o’clock (noon).
It was unanimously agreed upon that an insurance scheme ooroe into opera - tion on Saturday. The scheme is ns follows—Every player to pay 1/- every match in which lie plays. The benefits to lie, free medical aid. and a weekly allowance. The Treasurer was instructed to maintain the insurance funds in trust in title meantime. Messrs (McGregor (chair), Dowell, Woods, Seebeck, and ITeenan were appointed an Insurance Committee.
Notice of motion by Mr E. Lamont — That- the Union meeting lie held every Saturday in future.
A motion was carried asking the Referees Association to meet on Monday evening so as to allow Country clubs time to sec if the referees appointed were suitable.
