When Hendry had notched five he was clean bowled by no-ball from Parker. Gregory continued bitting hoping for the best and disregarding the worst He registered half a century in forty two minutes, meanwhile advancing to seventy four. When fifteen, Hendry touched one from Dennett and was quickly snapped up at the wickets by Robinson Oldfield was caught almost immediately off another no-hall from Parker. Gregory signallised his escape hv hitting Dennett for two sixes in succession, but in attempting a third got under the ball and skied it over the wicket, Robinson taking fbe catch. He batted fifty minutes and delighted the spectators with bis enterprising methods. His total included three sixes, one five and seven fours. The innings was then declared closed. The latter got Ham mond’s wicket when he had scored a single. Dipper ami Barnett settled down to steady batting. Armstrong dis placed Gregory. Barnett scored freely but lost Dipper at twenty-four. With P. Robinson in, play became defensive. Mailey liowled vice Tlondrv at forty-sev-en. Robinson punished Mailey and Ryder displaced Armstrong at sixtysix. The batting now became lively, the partnership adding fifty in fifty minutes. Robinson reached half a century in sixty minutes, and then Mailey shattered Barnett’s bails. 2 for 112. Smith got a short shrift from the googlio who next, with the aid of Oldfield added Robinson to bis list. 5 for 125. Gregory replaced Armstrong at 141 and the change brought down tho fall of Williams, who played on. Rowlands played a good unfinished innings.
