Margaret McDonnell, McDonnell’s Store, Greymouth.—Granted. NEW ZEALAND WINE LICENSE. William Charles Braddon, Sewell Street, Hokitika.—Granted. It will he observed that almost in every instance the applications have been adjourned until the next quarterly meeting in order to give the licensees an opportunity to fulfil the requisitions from the Board of Health requirements as to sanitary conditions of the premises and yards. In many instances their requirements are very drastic and unnecessary, especially with reference to the West Coast hotels.

In many instances to police reports were not so exacting, bill coupled in many cases with the Board ot Health requirements it made a fairly formidable list.

The Board of Health’s request that a hot and cold water system he installed in every hotel was considerably modified by the Committee, who insisted that plenty of clean cold water be employed in the bars for rinsing and washing purposes, the water to be changed frequently, but where a hot water service is desirable, it being a recommendation for the licensee for bathing purposes, not necessarily for bar purposes. The request from the police that the two fire escapes from the Princess Theatre which drop into the Red Lion hotel yard and into the Post Office hotel yard, he removed, was not entertained bv the Committee.

In all cases of adjournment for improvements the Magistrate intimated that in all cases the requisitions of the Board of Health must be strictly complied with, before the next quarterly meeting.

The Board of Health and police reports in connection with three hotels in Hokitika, were of such a drastic nature that the Committee adjourned for an hour to personally inspect the buildings, and after discussion the granting of the licenses was adjourned for three months to give time for the necessary repairs to be effected in each case. All tho Greymouth borough licenses were adjourned until Monday, June • 13th, at 2 p.m., at Greymouth, to thrash out the vexed question of the hot and cold water system throughout the Greymouth hotels. Tho Committee intimated that all front doors of hotels he kept open up to ten o’clock of tin evening, for the convenience of the public, hut that all bars bo securely closed.

It is the duty of licensees where an application for a license has been adjourned to pay up monthly in advance a proportionate part of the license fee, to the Treasurer of the local authority entitled to the fee, until such time as the application is granted. Tho meeting finished at 6.45 o’clock last night, getting through a vast amount of work, many of the reports being of great length. The Committee meet at Greymouth next Monday, June 13th, at 2 p.m.
