At a meeting of the Retail Shop Assistants’ Union last evening, strong exeeption was taken to the Arbitration Court’s refusal of the 5s bonus. The following resolutions were carried unaui niously:— “That this meeting of retail shop assistants considers that the Arbitration Court has been unduly influenced by the recent resolution campaign, conducted by employers’ associations and Chambers of Commerce, to secure a reduction in wages of employees generally. "We are of opinion that the Court’s judgement regarding wages and the bonus would have commanded more respect if it had been arrived at in a proper judicial manner by the calling of evidence from both sides.” “That this union .protests against the action of the Court in over-ruling a previous judgment which granted suspension for six months only of two shillings of the November bonus. Such action is calculated to destroy the confidence of the workers in the Court as a disinterested tribunal.” 1 WELLINGTON, May 21.
