TREE-PLANTING
THE UNEMPLOYMENT CAMP AT HIMITANGI.
MEN NOW AT WORK
The tree-plant inf camp recently established at Himatangi, as a part of the Government’ a scheme for dealing with the unemployed, is now' in operation. Twenty-five of the men who have applied at the Labour Bureau in Wellington for work within the last week have been sent to the camp, where their labours are being directed by forestry officers. Men who are fit for work of a more severe rtaturo have been sent to road rvorks at Akatarawa.
The number of men to bo employed at Himitangi will depend upon the demand for employment during the winter months. It is anticipated that an important beginning will bo made with the afforestation of the sand-dune areas. The arrangements have been made by the Defence Department for the housing of the men are reported to be quite adequate, though a certain amount of discomfort in wet weather may be unavoidable.—Wellington Dominion.
