N.Z. VARSITY TEAM. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, May 18. Despite unfavourable weather a good crowd attended the first Rugby representative match, Wellington v. the New Zealand Varsity team to tour Australia. ’Varsity had the best of the game and showed superior play in all departments of the game. Tn the first half Wiseman and Scott scored tries for 'Varsity and King kicked a penalty goal for Wellington. In the second half tho play improved. Wiseman and Craven secured tries for ’Varsity no goals resulting from the kicks. Algar scored a try for Wellington. The ‘Varsity team worked well, Siddels, Maxwell, and Perry in the backs pleasing the spectators, and Cabot and Jackson standing out among tho forwards. Nicholls and Roberts were most prominent in the Wellington backs, and Malin. Starden nad Price in tho forwards. The three men were severely cautioned and if they come up again will he suspended. . With regard to action of rertain spectators after the match. -Messrs Woods and Hagar, Rimu delegates asked the Union not to have the responsibility rest on the club.
