N.Z. VARSITY TEAM. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, May 18. Despite unfavourable weather a good crowd attended the first Rugby representative match, Wellington v. the New Zealand Varsity team to tour Australia. ’Varsity had the best of the game and showed superior play in all departments of the game. Tn the first half Wiseman and Scott scored tries for 'Varsity and King kicked a penalty goal for Wellington. In the second half tho play improved. Wiseman and Craven secured tries for ’Varsity no goals resulting from the kicks. Algar scored a try for Wellington. The ‘Varsity team worked well, Siddels, Maxwell, and Perry in the backs pleasing the spectators, and Cabot and Jackson standing out among tho forwards. Nicholls and Roberts were most prominent in the Wellington backs, and Malin. Starden nad Price in tho forwards. Nicholls and Roberts were most, prominent in the Wellington backs, and Malin, Starden and Price in the forwards Tn scrum work the heeling out and passing of the ’Varsity men was quite good. The game resulted ’Varsity 12, Wellington 6.
WEST LAN D SU B-UNION. The meeting of the sub-union was held last evening. Present—Messrs F. McGregor (President). Present—D. R. Dowell, A. Outbush, T. Gillooly, • JBreeze, b. Hughes, 11. Sesbeck, K. Moore, A. Dowell, M. Woods, J. Hagar W. O’Brien, P. Heslan and E. W. Heenan, Secretary). The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Airs Woods waited on the Union with a view to securing players to learn first aid. The Chairman thanked the Brigade for their kind offer and also for the work during matches on Cass
Square. Aloynihan, a junior player was bebre the Union for disputing the referee’s decision. M. Houston, referee, was present and explained the incident was not a serious one. Flo would adv'.-.o the Union to administer a caution. The Union resolved to caution this player. p Duncan, and Kiwi Junior, lor swearing was reported by Mr Conning. Duncan was cautioned.
O. Hahn and King were reported ly W. AVilson for fighting on the field. Mr AVilson was present and reported ordering the men off. King was called ami explained the incident. The Secretr.y on behalf of O. Hahn, explained the Boss players’ part in this business. Both men promised better behav'nui in the future. The Union resolved to severely caution both men, and if thej come before the Union again they would be suspended. A. Cutbush, referee in the match Bimu v. Kiwis, reported Griffiths, TT»gar'and AVilloughby. Hagar and Griffiths were present. The men were ordered off on account of unduly rough play.. . . The referee was present and explained he cautioned these men twice tn the field. Griffiths and Hagar denied being cautioned and also playing rough. The three men were severely cautioned and if they come up again will he suspended. . With regard to action of rertain spectators after the match. -Messrs Woods and Hagar, Rimu delegates asked the Union not to have the responsibility rest on the club. The Rimu club and all other country clubs were ordered to erect wire fences on both sides of the playing field to keep spectators off the field of playThe Kiwi team applied to have the services of an ex-member for this com-
