Presentation at Koiterangi
A most successful function was held at Ivoiterangi on Friday afternoon, when the residents and school children assembled at the Public Hall for the purpose of making a farewell presentation to Miss Hailinan, the popular teacher of the local school. The popularity of the teacher, together with a perfect Into autumn day, resulted in a very large number assembling for the ' purpose ' mentioned. At 2 o’clock a sumptuous tea was served on the green by the ladies. After tea an adjournment was made to the hall where the presentation took place, Mr Jamieson, Chairman of the Senool Committee, in a brief, but most appropriate speech referred to the many finequalities of Miss Hailinan He regretted the district was losing a teacher of such promise. Miss Hailinan, at a very early age for sole teacher, bad taken charge of their school, when it was in rather a disorganised state owing to so many changes in the teaching staff and lack of interest in school matters by the parents generally, a'liss ITallinan by bard work and very careful attention to her duties had brought the school to a state of efficiency comparable with any of the country schools. Miss Hailinan had shown great met .n her capacity as teacher; every child attending school had been treated with that exact kindness which had endeared the young minds to their teacher. Apart from the children, Miss Hallman held the respect and confidence of not only the parents, but everyone throughout the district, which was clearly shown by the assemblage present. Master Jack Havill then rend a nicely worded address on behalf of li e scholars of the Koitcrnngi school, after which Mr Jamieson asked the teacher to accept on behalf of the school (hildren, a handsome silver teapot ant m behalf of the residents, a set of Ute cutlery. Miss Hailinan in a few well-riosen words acknowledged the kindness «di. \\n her and especially thanked the scholars for their address and present. Three hearty cheers for Miss Hallman, and the singing of the National Anthem, brought a most successful gathering to a dose.—Contributed.
