Deceased, whose mother lives at Kairanga, near Palmerston North came to Dunedin on a health tj-ip two months ago, suffering from mental depression. HOUSING SCHEME. WELLINGTON, May 18 Three additional homes have been completed bv the Housing Department recently, two in Wellington and one in Te Arolra. The total number of homes completed since the inception of + he scheme is now 91. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s Whakatane this morning during fierce southerly squalls in the roadstead drifted on to the bow of the Poverty Bay Farmers’ Meat Company’s Admiral Codrington, damaging her stern, ! The latter is making no water. The I Whakatane is making water in No 4 hold and is going to Auckland under her own power. The Admiral Codrington is keeping in touch. ,
COLLISION AT SEA. GISBORNE, May 18. At 4.4r> the signalman received ti.e following Morse from Cab tain Forbes of the Codrington—“Steamer AVhakatane drifted during night and collided with our -boat. Damage to stem, but apparently no water making. Pleas'.) inform company and tell Lysnar. Noneed for alarm. Surveyed hold and cam proceed on voyage. Collision occurred at 3.44.” Half an hour later Forbes signalled“Whakatane reports making water No 4 hold. Am proceeding to Auckland.’’ Later Forbes reported—“ln wireless with Whakatane. Will keep in touch and report anything,” and later “Codrington in no danger.” The Whakatane left this morning for Auckland. 'Hie weather was too rough for a launch to proceed out to the Cod rington. The Whakatane, and Codrington during the past few days have been sheltering under Alahia. in company I with other vessels. SWIMMING. CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. At a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, the secretary reported there was one live club (Greymouth) in the Westland Centre. It was expected that the Blackball Club would join up next season.
