The “Manchester Guardian’s” Oppoln correspondent states: There is a German counter-insurrection maturing against the Voles in Silesia. Comprehensive plans have been formulated for a series of attacks upon the Polish rear from the big towns. Civil war is impending, unless the Allies speedily announce a disregard to the Polish fait accompli. POLAND’S CLAIMS. PARIS, May 14. „ The Frencth newspapers declare the Frenqh Government lias decided that the industrial areas in Silesia must be handed over to Poland, which is unwilling to attend the Supreme Council to lolibcrato on the subject, unless this view is accepted by the Allies. LLOYD GEORGE ON SILESIA. LONDON, May 13. Referring to the Silesian problem, Mr Lloyd George, in the House of Commons, said that Korfantz’s action was in complete defiance of the Versailles I'reaty. Poland, above all lands, should respect every coiulna of that Treaty. When Germany was helpless through the Allies” action Poland said she would fight even against the Treaty. Either the Allies ought to insist on the Treaty .being resjiected, or should allow Germ i*y lo d< the- same thing. The Allies must stand for fair play. The result of the plebiscite was something like six to four in favour of the German claims. Unless the situation was dealt it, with stern justice, it would be fatal to European peace, a.nd if peace were disturbed, lie could not sav what would happen to the world. He would.go so far as to say that he was frightened at what would happen unless confidence were restored.
