The Austrian Chamber has adopted a Bill empowering the Government to request the League of Nations to assent to Austria taking a plebiscite on the question of her fusion with Germany. No time is fixed for the plebiscite, indicating that the proposal is dependent on the outcome of the general European situation and the success or other wise of the Austrian financial negotiations with the Entente.
LONDON APPLE MARKET. LONDON, May 14. The apple market is very firm. The Ilororata’s New Zealand shipment has commenced discharging. The appi'? appear in good couditiin, though some were apparently carried at low :e iv peratures. About 2000 lots were auctioned at Pudding Lane, there being keen competition. The market was almost bare. Prices were: Coxs 16s. 245; Dunns 22s to 255.; Jonathans 22s to 245.; Worcesters 19s. to 20s; Reinettas 18s to 21s; Ribstones 14s.
