Thoughts For The Times

Money Yalubs. “In the financial year that has just ended, the Government spent only £486,000, practically half a million. In the previous year it spent only £195,(KVh There is one regret over this expendituare. It was necessary in evencase ; in many cases there was dire necessity; hut for the half million pounds’ worth of work, compared with what we would have got five or sixyears ago. I do not think that it is wise to build more than is necessary. We must wait until the cost comes down. All public expenditure must bo curtailed until financial matters right themselves. I don’t think that the financial stringency will be of long duration. I have great hopes of this country, with its variety of resources. In a compartively short time we will recover *ur old position. There is everything to hope for in New Zealand.”- The Minister of Education at Christchurch.
