Coursey. the contracting parties being Mr John Henry Evans, of Granity, and Aliss Gladys May McAlaster, only daughter of Airs and the late H. H. AlcAlaster of Westport. The death took, place at Westport on Thursday night of a miner, named Percy Rebus, who was admitted to tie Westport Hospital on Tuesday from Stockton mine, where lie had been severely injured through being run over bv three trucks, lie was 35 years old, and a native of the Old Country.
The deatli of Mrs A. Harris, formerly of Reefton, occurred at the residence of her son,, Mr Charles Harris, at Mount Somers.on Monday last. The deceased I’dv, who was predeceased hv her husband, brought up a numerous family of eight sons and seven daughters, and live of her boys were serving at the war at one time. Mr John Harris, her second son, was in Mount Somers at the time of his mother’s demise.

The total in 1916 was 5510, including Cobden which was a’t that time part of the County. The actual decrease over the same area since 1916 is, therefore, 312.
Mr W. T. Jennings, M.P., for Waitomo, is about to pay a visit to Britsvn and Europe, one of his objects being to visit the graves of two sons who losr. their lives in the late war. One was killed and buried in Gallipoli, and he other, who died of wounds received at Loos, found his last resting-place in Athlone, Ireland. It is proposed by Mr Jennings’ friends in Aucklahd to entertain him at a farewell gathering prior to his departure.
A voting man named Clarence Lorigan was arrested in Auckland on Wednesday on a charge of having stolen a motor-car at Hastings last month. Oj. the date stated trotting races were held at Hastings, and a motor-car, which had been left among others unattended outside the racecourse, was driven awnv by some unauthorised person. It was subsequently found capsized by the roadside in the Taradale district, and a youth was under the capsized car Lorigan is suspected of having be p 'i concerned in taking the car from the racecourse for a “joy ride.”
In the course of his remarks at a meeting on Monday of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, Mr J. M. Johnston advocated stern measures disloyalists. “The present financial stringency must be more or less felt in the coming year by the Association,” he said. “To some extent the cloud appears to be lifting, and it is to be hoped we will come back to normal times at no distant date, wh?n sane labour has had time to reflect on the eruption being created by extremists and disloyalists. To my mind Parliament should pass an Act to deport any person who is not prepared to swear allegiance to the Crown and country’. They should be deported k. some other country and not allowed tv return to this country. An Act like this hanging over the heads of the agitators would make them reflect before they disorganise the whole industrial system of the Empire.’*
