NEW YORK, May 7
Ir/ connection with the shipping strike, violence has increased. The operators aliave rejected a suggested compromise on the wages reduction pro portion. Several strikers armed with dubs have been arrested at Philadelphia. Steamers are forced to anchor in midstream in order to escape - attacking
strikers. At Newport News the Shipping Board steamer “William Artie” was found with all the seacocks open and 15 feet of water in the holds. j Riots at Baltimore caused Admiral Benson to threaten to remove all Shipping Board ships from that port. Fifteen strikers were thon arrested. The Court warned strikers against picketing ships at New Orleans. Three members of non-striking crews were severely injured by strikers. / Reports from Alaska show Alaska is in serious straits, due to lack of supplies, owing to the strike. All businesses are practically closed.
DUTCH OIL DEPOSITS
WASHINGTON, May G
The Netherlands Embassy here has a statement that Dutch mineral resources are liberally applied in filling the world’s, needs. No more concessions will be extended for exploitations of oil fields in the Dutch East Indies, but the Government of the Colony will either develop the oil fields or .else do so by contracting with companies previously authorised. The manager and directing boards of these companies must be Dutch subjects. AMERICAN DELAY.

Republican leaders state the passage of Senator Ivnox’s resolution through the House of Representatives will be delayed till the critical situation in Europe is relieved. They intimate that both the State Department and White House has requested an indefinite delay.
