Giving evidence before the Hospitals Commission at Wellington, Dr A\ • E. Collins (chairman of executive of the Red Cross Society) said that there was
j no doubt that if the medical examinaI turn of children in the schools was to be erto-ried out every year in a thorough i manner, a large number of medical offiers would he required. The yearly exj animation of children from birth upj wards could he carried out for ail ade- ' (piate fee by local medical practitioners.
The mine manager of the Boatman a Consolidated reports as follows for the month ending April 1921: “The reeflias been very broken, cutting out and re-making from time to time. The stone appears to have made in to the foot wall, and at this point a cross-cut has been put in for about 12ft. hut without success so far. The face of the main drive north looks very encouraging at the present time, land it is being continued, and in addition the cross-cut will also he extended.” A reminder is given of the open air entertainment oti Cass Square at 8 o’clock this evening, when the grounds will be lit with electric light. The occasion is organised by the newly formed Beautifying Society ns a means to raise funds to assist in improving th o grounds from every point of view. The general appearance of the Square is not creditable to the townspeople and the new movement is an opportunity to assist in a small way to help provide a fund whereby during the year the grounds will he put in more attraoti\e order, and made a more pleasing adjunct to the town and its inhabitants.
The Inangahua “Times” reports: Further enquiry elicited the fact that the reef first struck on the top of the hill has been traced to the bottom of the gully going north a distance of a mile and a quarter from the original find, thus giving the reef a huge amount of hacks, and the country being solid there is every prospect of the reef continuing. The most important bearing!? of the continuation the reef north is the fact that it may extend to the Mamin side of the range where the country is ot a good slaty formation, and likely looking for quartz. If this should prove to be the case, it will hear out Dr. Henderson’s geological report on this district in which he contended that the Kinvan’s Reward line of reef extended to the Alexander River.

At the present time there is a con-' siderable amount of “cheap” priced : goods on the market, but as far as value is concerned (which is the paramount point to consider when purchas- | ing any article) these goods are de- ■ cidedly dear. To buy an article of quality at a low price is certainly a sound proposition, but on the other hand to purchase a cheap priced article without quality (which means inferior value) is throwing good money away. Tt is a good plan for the public at the present time^to go carefully into the value of goods before purchasing, because it is a well-known fact that the cheap priced article often proves the most expensive in the long run. There are many linos of cheap Australian footwear, and Japanese goods on the market at present. Thtse goods are 1 deal - at any price, and a few months’ wear would easily testify to the poorness of these goods. Goods of quality can be bought to-day from 20 I to 33 1-3 per cent reduction on the prices that have been ruling for I some time past. These are the reducI tions that pay the general public. ! Goods of this class can be had to-day at I the New Zealand Clothing Factory. The great reputation of this firm has been built up by the providing of good value. —Advt.
