SIBERIA REVOLT,

The Bolshevik press reports the Soviet, is alarmed over the peasant rising in Western Siberia which it is believed Ivoltohak’s ex-officers have engineered. Strong Soviet forces were despatched thither to crush the revolt. AMERICA AND JAPAN. STATEMENT BY COUNT SHIDEHARA. (Received This Day at 11.30 a.m.) . NEW YORK, May 3. Count Shidehara, addressing the Chamber of Commerce at Cleveland, Ohio declared Japan had been the subject of deliberate enemy propaganda. He said it'is idle to deny there are differences between United, States and Japan awaiting adjustment Me want to find out the trouble and apply the remedy, so I have come to assure you that my Government and people alike aspire to live in genuine, cordial friendship with United States. The stability 'of cverv human institution about tne shores of the'Pacific Ocean depends upon the maintenanse of a good understanding between Japan and United States. Neither nation can avoid that grave responsibility. Shidehara deplored the attempts of. propagandists antagonistic to Japan, to magnify insignificant occurrenes. He, reiterated that Japan claims no right, nor has arty intention to send emigrants to Umtei States. She only asks for a just, equitable treatment of her nationals, lawfully resident there. She desires nothing more and cannot be satisfied with anything less.
A NEW CABLE. (Received This Day at 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, May 3
A third cable between Singapore and Madras was opened on Thursday, expediting Far Eastern and Australian traffic to Europe via India. ATTEMPT TO SCUTTLE. (Received this dav at 1.5 p.m.> f LONDON, May 3. A daring attempt was made to scuttle six sloops of war at Carrigaloe. Armed Sinn Feiners overpowered the watchmen and went below, and opened the seacocks. The engine roo.m and stokeholds filled rapidly and the raiders rowed away. The watchmen returned just in time to prevent the vessels sinking. CONTROL OF RAILWAYS. (Received This Day at 1.5. p.m.i LONDON, April 3. Sir E. Geddes announced that when control ended, the Government agreed to give the railways sixty millions in complete': satisfaction of all whereof nine millions were returnable in incomie tax. Ireland is to be dealt with separately. He confidently recommended settlement, otherwise litigation would go on for years. JAP STEAMER CAPSIZES. (Received This Day at 1.5. p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, May 3. A Seattle telegram reports the Japanese steamer Tokuyomaru caught fire and capsized olf Columbia River. One of the crew is dead and eight are missing. Seventy of the crew and five passengers were picked up by rescuing vessels.
