A FAREWELL SOCIAL
A most enjoyable social was held in the Public Hall, Rimu, on Tuesday night, when the residents of Rimu, Woodstock, and Kanieri, with numerous visitors gathered to bid farewell to Mrs West, who is severing her connection with the Woodstock school and leaving the district for Nelson, ill's West (better known to the public as .Mis* Alice Nancekivell) lias always been an ardent worker in connection with all local functions and was responsible for many enjoayble concerts, in which connection she will be greatly missed by the public. Dancing was the order of the evening, interspersed with songs by .Mrs E. Stoop, Miss Avson, and Messrs W. McFadyen and F. Curtain. Ths music was supplied by the Knowles family, with extras by .Misses Lamacroft, Breeze and C. and I. Morris. Mr D. Kelly, in presenting Mrs West on liehalf of the residents with a handsome set of stainless cutlery with carvers to match, referred to her good work in connection with the school and m _ the district, assuring her of the good wishes of the whole community. Mr Mackav, head master, thanked the residents and all concerned on behalf of Mrs West and the school, and congratulated the residents on the splendid way they were entertaining one so worthy. Mrs West spoke feelingly of leaving the district and the school at which she had been both a pupil and a.teacher lor so long. She was greeted by vociferous applause and the hearty singing of “She’s a jolly good fellow.” She thanked the residents for their splendid gifts and said it would ever remind her of their warm hearts. All credit is due to the energetic ladies’ committee who organised and carried out this enthusiastic gathciing. The singing of “Auld Dang Syne” brought to a close an evening which will long be remembered by the residents of the district and Mrs West m particular. •
