A BISHOP’S INVITATION

DECISION OYER NEAV POSITION. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. NEW YORK, April 24. Archbishop Cody has declined the offer of the Alelbourne Archbishopric. NEAV YORK, April 24. Some indication of tho deep thought and trial involved in making the decision as to whether he would accept the Alelbourne call is indicated by the fact that Archbishop Cody, speaking to an Australian Press Association agent over the long distance telephone on Saturday evening confessed he had as yet been unable to make up his mind. He declared it was his most difficult problem in his career. He promised, however, when he faced his congregation on Sunday forenoon, that lie would positively make a decision and communicate it to the congregation before anyone else. A 1 embers of St Paul’s Church, To-

ronto, speaking to a correspondent on the telephone after Sunday’s services, declared the scene was very impressive when Dr Cody informed the congregation lie had decided to remain in Toronto. Dr Cody dictated the following message over the telephone from Torou;j “1 am deeply conscious of the import ance of my decision and the great op portunity for service the Alelbourne call affords in matters ecclesiastical ami educational, and from the point of view of humanity. I heartily thank the Australian churchmen for the confidence they reposed in me, for 1 believe a Canadian in Australia might aid m the continued promotion of fine lelations between Australia and Canada, but after long consideration, I have decided that in view of the undertakings in which I am already engaged in Canada, and the continued opportunities for service in my present position, it is my present duty to remain in Canada. ] therefore find it necessary to decline the high honour offered me. I am tremendously impressed by the call. It I could only tear myself in two alas.
