AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. THE DAVIS cur. AAfERTCAN TEAM HONOURED. WASHINGTON, April 23. A well-attended dinner was given in honour of tho American Davis Cup team, members of which were presented with small replicas of the Cup. President Harding sent a message regretting his inability to be present, but congratulating the team and pointing out that such friendly rivalries as international tennis really help to promote a good understanding between peoples, because they afford a mutual opportu nity to appreciate and respect all those fundamental tilings which underlie a nation’s greatness. Air Geddes in a speech congratulated the Americans because their win had improved the standard of the game. He declared that Dwight Davis, the donor of the cup, had built, better than lie knew, influences for good, which arising out of competition for 111 e Cup, far transcended just the tennis aspect since they made lor international good fellowship.
