RUGBY RULES. WELLINGTON, April 22 Mr J. McLeod, president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, in a letter to the Union deals with the question of alteration of the rules. The English Union has already assented to a number of alterations suggested) hut has so far refused to adopt the new kick into touch rule, which has met with groin favour, particularly in Auckland, and is the most vital alteration of all. Mr McLeod says the League code is the strongest in Auckland, and it is absolutely necessary to find some way of reconciling tho desire of the union there to improve the rules, with fhe attitude of the English union. He suggests the opportunity should he given the African te t am to see tho new rule in operation and prove to them its intrinsic worth. Meanwhile the New Zealand union should give Auckland special permission to play as they wish, and the English union should also he asked to allow all Australasia to play the rule, except against countries that have not adopted it.
