FIRE AT KANIERI

PUBLIC SCHOOL DESTROYED

A disastrous lire occurred at Kanieri about three o’clock this morning the fine large public school there being totally destroyed by fire. When discovered the flames had ;l big hold, and there being no fire appliances available, nothing could be done to stop the ravages of the flames, the structure being totally destroyed. ’file residence of the teacher (Mrs Manson) in the grounds was endangered but a bucket brigade prevented the flames from getting a hold, though most, of the furniture was removed owing to the danger.

The Education Board’s painting stall had been engaged for the past day or two in painting the interior ol the school. They were camped in a tent in the school grounds. The whole of their painting plant was destroyed. Nothing was saved, only oho brick chim - ney standing this morning.
