In the Metropolitan area since June 1920, the retail prices of boots have dropped fifteen to thirty per cent, groceries ten per cent, beef and mutton (roughly) twenty to thirty per cent. WOMEN AND CHURCH WORK. SYDNEY, April 21. The Anglican Synod is discussing women’s part in church Government. It defeated the proposal that womon be allowed to act as wardens, but agreed that they be eligible to sit on prison councils.

The voting was strictly on party lines. Earl Pago reiterated that the Country Party would not guarantee immunity during the absence of Hon Mr Hughes, hut would take no unduo advantage. The amendment by Mr Considine that Hon Hughes resign was negatived by 23 to 46,
