Mails which left Wellington on the 2nd March per R.M.S. “Mamma* via San Francisco arrived in London on the 10th April. A fisherman named Albert Met uimack had an extraordinary'experience near Corowa, New South Wales, a te' v days ago. He parted with lus mate, Larry Charlton, at the Murray Flats, Wodonga, with the intention of rowing their boat down stream to Yarruwongu. All went well with McCormack til! h" reached a.spot seven miles the mher side of Howlong, known as The Devil’s Corner. Here there is an ugly deep hole, with a swift-rushing current and whirlpool, in addition to "I‘ich there is a group of very ugly snags. Me Cormack’s boat rapidly filled and sank Not being able to swim the unfortunate man was hurled in amongst the snags He managed to grab hold of one o them, and pull himself above water For the next two and a half days h was left in this perilous position, wel out in the stream. He had no food and his lower limbs became partial! paralysed by long immersion. Periodic ally he called for help. With his brace he made himself fast to the snag. Ever tually a boundary rider hove in sight McCormack was taken to the farn house and given food, and, regainin sufficient strength, took to the roae and walked to Corowa. On arrvial £ « the Mill Hotel, about a mile from tf town, he was thoroughly exhaustei and was taken to the hospital fi treatment. He was covered with sea and scratches.
