WESTLAND HOSPITAL MEMORIAL WIND.

DRAWING OF ART UNION

The art union in connection with the raising of hinds for the AAestland Hospital Memorial wing took place at the •Princess Theatre on Saturday night in the presence of a score or more of people. The Municipal Band had conducted the art union on behalf of the Westland Hospital Board, and Mr Richards, lion, secretary, reported as to the funds in the Savings Bank, corresponding with the I >ooks sold. Mr T. W. Bruce. Secretary to the Hospital Board, had everything in order for the drawing, ail hooks and butt-s being arranged in such a. manner as to make the checking a very simple business. The drawing was supervised by Sergt King on behalf of the Department of Internal Affairs, which had issued the permit for the art union, and hv the Mayor (Mr Derry), the Town Clerk (M Andrewes) and the County Clerk (Mr Evans) on behalf of the ticket holders. «

The actual drawing was not a lengthy process, live juveniles holding the hags with the numbered marbles, and each drawing a- number independently. The Mayor drew the prizes. The following was the order in which the prizes were drawn:

First prize, £IOO in gold nuggets, No ,207, Airs P. Struthers, AVestport.

Fourth prize, “View of Te Annu,” No 11,205. Airs Robinson, AVestport. Second prize ,“Walton-on-Thames, No 528, Air R. Houliston, Koiterangi. Fifth prize. “Psycho’s Bath,” No 7,322. Hokitika- Municipal Band. Third prize. “View Old Christchurch Road,” No 11,270, Airs Longstaff, Gran

At the conclusion of the drawing, the Mayor in thanking all who had assisted to make the. art union a success, and specially referring to the work of the Municipal Band in the matter, stated that the Hospital funds would benefit by over £2OO with an additional subsidy of 24s in the £. This would mean a very substantial addition to the funds already in hand for the Alemor-j-,1 wing, and the effort therefore was a very acceptable one.
