At (ireymouth Magistrate’s Court yesterday, John Paine, who was arrested in Hokitika on Tuesday, appeared charged with obtaining money by false pretences, by means of a valueless cheque. Detective Young said the cheque for £2 18s (id, had been offered to Mrs Simeon of the Club Hotel. A remand was granted until Monday to enable enquiries to be completed, as other charges are said to be pending. Rail was fixed in one surety of £IOO or two of £SO.

A cable message to the Australian papers, under date of London, March 24th. states:Tlu> Prince of Wales lost two pipes while hunting in Leicestershire. He offers £5 reward for both and £3 For one.
