I THE LEBARTE TRAGEDY. ; TRIAL FOR MURDER, i i (Received This Day at 11.30 a.m.) j SYDNEY, April 5. _ j The trial has commenced of Major ■Bebarte, charged with murdering his wife at Mossvale, cabled on 18th. De- ! comber. He entered a plea of not guilty. In a statment from the dock he declared he had no recollection of eo-:-niitting the tragedy or the details thereof. He knew after hearing the evidence that that he must have killed his wife and Constable Mitchell, but he had no remembrance of doing so. In losing Ills wife he had lost the person , dearest to him in the world, and he would not wilfully have done her or Mitchell any harm. The evidence was generally similar to that at the inquest.
