On Friday evening, Ist April, the staff of the -Seaview .Mental Hospital invited their friends to join them in their first monthly dance. The unselfish labours of the Social Committee were generously rewarded by the excellent attendance, and in spite of the late arrival of many visitors the evening was most successful. The floor and lighting were highly appreciated bv the dancing couples, who were kept on the “qui vivo” hv the M.C.. Mr Walker. The staff orchestra: Nurse Macfarlane (piano). Attendant Martini (cornet), and Attendant Dawson (piccolo), of Trentham Hand fame, covered themselves with glory. Midway through the evening, a dainty handround supper was served by the nurses, and midnight saw the close of very enjoyable evening.'
An analysis of the passenger list of the emigrant, ship Waimana, which arrived at Wellington on Wednesday, showed that there were on hoard (ill men, Kid women, 10d children between the ages of one and twelve, and 21 infants. The majority were single men. and the remainder married men with their wives and families, or singlo women who had done war service, chiefly on tlie land, under the Imperial Govern ment.
