WASHINGTON, March 31 The British Embassy here has issued a statement commenting upon the American Commission’s report on Ireland. The report of the Commission charges the Crown forces with perpetrating atrocities in Ireland. The Embassy statement says: These reports are entitled to exactly the amount of weight which should be given to any judgment based entirely on ex-parte evidence, that is biased and wholly misleading, both as to its general conclusions and in matters of detail. The Embassy’s statement denies the report that Ireland is a devastated country. It claims Ireland to be “one of the most prosperous parts of the British Empire.’.’ It says that deposits in joint stock banks increased fifty-three million .pounds since 1914. The Embassy alleges that the Sinn Fein votes at the 191 S eletcion were .less than half a million, out of two millions. It adds that the Commission’s report admits it did not receive any evidence from the British sources.

It is understood that the latest Japanese operations in Siberia have caused Hon. Mr. Hughes (American Secretary of State) to start investigations into the entire question of Japan’s continued occupation of Siberia and of Northern Sakhalin Island. It is learned the State Department is considering th> sending of a Note to Tokio, suggesting the withdrawal of the Japanese troops.
