The first test match, Australia v. New Zealand, commenced to-day in the presence of 3000 spectators, who grew to 1,(500 as the morning progressed. The wicket was in period order. Australia non the toss.
The opening of the match was rather sensational. Richardson and Bogle opened, ami off the fourth ball the latter was run out without scoring. Hansford left at 25 and then Lampard and Liddicutt. took the score to 111 hoioro the batman was howled. AA aildy joined Liddicutt and this pair hrough die total to 132. when rain came and interrupted play for the day. The test cricket match was continued yesterday in line weather and good wicket. The Au-tralians who bad lost I for 131 on the opening day carried their total to 263 before the innings closed ('Liddicutt 83, Lampard 53. Waddy 48). Brice howled well for New Zealand, taking 7 for SO. New Zealand began hatting at 3.20 p.m. and lost S for 129 when stumps "ere drawn. I lornibrook and Ironmonger were too many for. I lie batsmen.
