INTER-WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB
I The above Club held its annual meeting on Easter Saturday, at which there was a large attendance, in spite of the unsettled nature of the weather. Rcpj rcsentatives from as far south as OkaI rito and as far north as Greymoutb .eI ing present. The officials were all at their posts, and everything went smoothly. Some good fields were got | away well by Mr W. Searle. Em I band arrived early in the afternoon, and on arrival at the course was greet!ed with cheers by the assemblage. It 'enlivened th o proceedings greatly with its very enjoyable programme ot music. I \fter the big race had been run, Mr | ' Chinn M.C.C.. mounted the .) udgc s box and ’on behalf of the InterWanganui Club presented the owner ol the winning horse, Kolyma with the silver cup. He expressed pleasure at having the honour placed upon him and congratulated the owner of the horse on winning both the Wataroa and the above Club’s cups both ot which were most creditable performances. KFMARA RACKS. The Easter meeting of the Kumara Racing Club was held yesterday iiihlit very mkvcssl'ul circmnstaiiees. The weather for the two preceding days had been most unpropitious, hut despite the rain the lacing track was in remarkably good trim, and good racing was possible. The attendance was large, tin gate receipts an increase on thus” of last year, notwithstanding that this year a uniform charge for admission was made. The totnlisator was wril ui) to that of last year, being £6399. as against £6520, a decrease of £l2l only. The meeting was well conducted, the racing passed off plea-antly. All the officials were at their posts and nothing occuired to mar the pleasure of a very enjoyable afternoon’s sport and outing. Junction Handicap of 33 sovs. 6 furlongs: Woodrow (8.-1.) 1. Bunny (9.2) 2, Unlikely (7. ) 3. The other starters wore J’errier, Rosevear. Xantlios and Jewel Piece. From a. fair start Bunny went to the front, attended bv Perrier. Wlien Bunny stumbled at the back of the course, Perrier took charge temporarily, but soon gave place to Woodrow. Bunny now closed on the leaders, and Unlikely put in a claim also but Woodrow stalled iff the challenge, and non with something to spare, 'fiine 1.22. Totnlisator £833.
Flying Handicap, of 55 sovs; 5 furlongs : Happy Valiev (7.13) 1. Honiforin (8.10), 2. Tlieda" (8.9) 3. Divorce and Treasure King also started. From a very even start. Happy Valley soon got into the leading position. Divorce dropping to the rear. Roniform and Theda in close attendance on the leader made efforts to head Happy Valley without avail, and fought out a close finish for second and third places. Time 1.7. Totnlisator £760. Borough Trot of 65 sovs. one mile. A pres Moi (Risers,) 1, Prince Mur (10 sees) 2, Soprano 3. Beach Boy (-Ispcs) I. Theife wore, ten other starters. Whispering Boy led the field at the outset. but was headed by A pres Moi and Bonnie Dillon. The latter soon dropped haelt, and Prince Mae pul in a good run before reaching the straight. In the home run A pres Moi came away nicely and won with a good deal to spare. Time 2.31 3-5. Totalisntor £lOl4.
Kumara Handicap of 123 sovs, 1 mile and a quarter—Steepholm (7.7) !. Benefit (8.10) 2, Fabiseo (8.2) 3. Perrier also started. Steepholm had a good position from the outset, Benefit was in close attendance being on the rails going out of the straight. At the rear of the course Benefit moved up on the outside, and the leading pair raced for the straight. Entering the home stretch both horses ran wide, and Fabiseo bad a chance to get up on the inside but lacked the foot. Perrier was now’ well to the rear. Steepholm and Benefit fought out the finish amid great excitement. Time not taken. Totnlisator £1067. A protest for boring was heard and deliberated on at considerable length and finally dismissed. Dillmnns Handicap of 65 sovs, live furlongs and a half—Lord Formby (7.4) 1, Samarang 2, JTnppy Valley (7.19). 3. Also started: Divorce, Kuawliero, Royal Visit and Treasure King. From an uneven start Lord Formby took command and although challenged by Siamafranig, hHd his position to the end. Time 1.13. Totnlisator £IO4O. Otira Trot of 65 sovs. 11 miles - Soprano (Bsees) 1, Trince Mac (21) 2. Bennie Dillon (22) 3. Seven others started. A capital race. Foxglove w’as first in front, till disploced by Prince Mae. Then Soprano, which put in a long sustained run got to the front at the straight and secured a very popular win. Time 3.46. Totnlisator £975. Westbrook Welter of 70 sovs, 7 furlongs—Lady Middleton (9.1) 1. Tyne (9.2) 2. Xanthos (8.5) 3. The only starters out of 14 acceptors, A good
start saw. Lady Middleton head the field and though repeatedly challenged by Tyne went on a sure winner. Totalisator £655.
