It is suggested in some quarters that go-slow methods at Cockatoo Island dockyards made the cost of naval shipbuilding almost prohibitive. Unofficial estimates show the cruiser Adelaide lias already cost a million and owing to the length of time building she will he out of date when ready for commission. Her sister ships, built in England weir completed long ago for £450,009 each.
