Replying to representations of various Shop Keepers’ Associations asking for repeal of the legislation compelling shops to close at 6 p.m., Mr Massey said lie would have objected to the measure had he been present when it was before the Labour Bills Committee last year, but was ill at the ime. lie had given notice to introduce a Bill repealing the clause. It would depend on the. reception the Bill received whether it would reach the Statute Book. If there were organised opposition and he was informed the Labour Party proposed to oppose it, it had little chance of passing this season.
