WEDNESDAY, MARCH l Jth. (Before C. ii. Orr-Walker, Esq., S.M.) STAMP DUTY. The police charged John Al arty n, of Teremakau with failure to stamp a teceipt—His Worship said lie thought it was for wages though not put on the voucher in the proper form. Case dismissed.

Same v. J. Cuttanee (Air Murdoch) a similar charge. His Worship said this was similar to the last and lie would give tho benefit of tho doubt. Case dismissed. AV AND E RIN G GATT lAS.

Borough Inspector (Air. Park) v. V . Jeffries, a c harge of allowing a liorse to wander. A plea of not guilty was entered.

(’ Gibbons gave evidence that he saw a pony in the street about 6.130 P-in. without anyone in charge. Coukl not say whose it was. Cameron came to the house and aslu-d witness to come and take charge of the pony. He saw the pony and went to get ready, but when lie came out the pony had disappeared. Frank Cameron gave evidence that on HOth. December, he saw a pony of Mr Jeffries on the road. Ib was a black filly. No one was in charge. It was at the corner of Hampden and Revel 1 Streets.

To Air Jeffries—He could not say how long he had been after tin* Inspector's job. He had previously gone to the Inspector to urge him to take a summons out against Jeffries. He did not dog the horse of defendant out of the section. He did not strike Basil Gibbons for trying to stop witness.

William Jeffries gave evidence that on 30th. December when the pony was supposed to he wandering it aas in the stable. The puny was there between 3 and 6 o’clock and was still in the stable at 8.30 p in. The other pony he owns was in use. witness being out driving it during that period. Basil Gibbons, employed by Jeffries and Co., deposed on 30th. Decern! about 0 p.m. rode one pony and left the other in the stable yard and it was there when they got back. To his knowledp tin* pony was not out that night. Mis Worship said after hearing the evidence he was not prepared to to convict the defendant. Tilt* pony may have got out. but it was quite deal that the pony was in the stable before and afterwards. The case had been forced on by the witness, who had a grievance against the ilelendant. The case would lie dismissed. DEFENCE ACT’. Kergt. Major F. Mclntosh v. James Devaney, a charge of failure to attend parade. Adjourned to next sitting. LICENSING ACT’. The police charged an offender with being on licensed premises (Pioneer Hotel) during prohibited boors. Convicted ande fined £2 and costs ,/-. Two other charges against offenders were adjourned 'ill next silting. Hi' Uoi'hip ion sidelong that a- the sunimonses were only served yesterday that sufficient time had not been given to defendants. Dolice v. R. Wells, n charge of riding a cycle after sunset without a light. Adjourned to next sitting. DEBT CASES. Charitable Aid Board (Mr Park), \. Thus J. Smith, claim £ll 35.. judgment for amount with costs £3 6s. .-Bank of N.S.W. (Air Wells) v. J. Payne. Adjourned for one month on application of plaintiff. Al. .1. Corbett (Air Rilkington) v. Jas. Johnston, claim .Cl 9s 3d. Judgment for plaintiff' with costs 23.6. Same v. J. A. Kidd (Air Wells) clain £l3 3s 3d. A counterclaim for £l7 7s was agreed to and judgment given tor defendant on counter claim for the difference £1 Is 9d.. with costs 31/-. JUDGMENT SUMMONS. Julia Liwood (Mr Murdoch) v. Tims. Jones (Air Rilkington) adjourned judgment summons. Order mad 0 for payment of V- per week. ADJOURNED. A suit for alleged trespass was adjourned for a month by agreement on tin* application of Air Wells.
