WELLINGTON, March 7

Tho position in connection with the Mayoralty contest becomes more involved. The candidates already announced are: Messrs I,on. McKenzie;, 11. A. Wright, M.P. and C. J. lb Norwood, members of the City Council; and Mr I*. Hickey, the Labour nominee. Tonight representatives of eleetoVs’ asociations met and chose, under a system of preferential voting, Mr T. Shailer Weston, president of the Employers’ Federation, as a. candidate. Unless some of the candidates withdraw. the Labour nominee stands a good chance of election. Another meeting will he held to-mor-row. A SAD FATALITY. O-LWARU, March 7. A distressing fatality occurred just after 5 o’clock this evening in which a Waiitaki High Hchool boy named Herbert Eric* Richardson, son of Mr Richardson, residing at Tinoroto, Gisborne, lost his life. A number of boarders at the Waitaki School were returning by motor bus to the school after a visit to town, when, it is stated. Richardson attempted to board the bus. which was travelling at ten miles per hour. Richardson who was 1 I years o r age, missed his hold and fell under a wheel death being instantaneous. Quite a gloom was cast over the school and community bv the sad accident.

MISSING MOUNTAINEERS SAFE INVERCARGILL March 3.

Air Samuel Turner and party. who were reported missing near AT il ford Sound, are safe. Air D. McPherson one of the party, has telegraphed, that they have been to Martin’s Bay, and now are going back to Milford. They expect to reach Invercargill on the loth List.
