William Dalton, a clerk employed by the Northern Trust Company of Chicago, absconded with £140,000 worth of negotiable securities. The company has offered £SOOO as a reward for his capture. UNITED STATES NAVY. NEW PRESIDENT’S ATTITUDE. WASHINGTON, Feb. 26. Senator Harding, the incoming President, has advised the United States Semite Republican leaders that ho desires'to have adequate appropriations passed for the navy. He favours the continuing of the present building programme, without any material reductions. Secretary Harding has not indicated his position regarding Senator Borah’s recent resolution on the subject of disarmament, a vote on which was blocked in the Senate this week.
It is expected the resolution, which favours reduction of navy expenditure, will die with the expiraton of the session.
Some Senate leaders are of opinion that Senator Harding will favour a reduction of armaments if a goneial agreement among the nations is obtained. ARRIVAL OF WOOL. With the arrival of the steamer Tahiti with 500 bales of Australian wool and expectance of 31,000 bales in March, shipping men declare it is the beginning of a heavy movement in wool to anticipate the wooi tariff. 6>
