CANTERBURY WOOL SALKS. GOOD SORTS FIRMER. I HY TELEGRAPH —PER CHESS ASSOCIATION CHRISTCHURCH, Fob. 1(5. The fourth Christchurch wool sale commenced this morning with an offering of 21784 hales, compared with 20,692 at last sale a month ago, but up to the adjournment to-night at II o’clock, half of the lots offered wore passed in.

The range of prices so far as the sale has progressed is:—Super merino, lld to 20d per 11>.; medium merino 12d, to ltd; super hnlfbrod 9'.d to 13d; inforiod halfbred 8d to 94; super threo(piartorbred, 9d to lid; medium three(piarterbred 7<l to inferior threeipiarterbred Id to 6sd; super crossbred 7d to 10d; medium crossbred 5d to 7d; inferior crossbred 3d to od; best halfbred prices'3d to 8d; crossbred prices 31 to (id; locks 2d to 4d. There was a full bench of buyers, and competition was keen for all good lines merino especially meeting keen competition from Continental buyers and local mills. Best half-biteds were keenly sought after, as also were good light cross-breds, but wasty and inferior wools won very little animation. The bidding was most irregular all through the sale, especially for inferior crossbreds. Taken all round the sale indicates a firm market for well-known merino and half-breds with a falling tendency from Id. to 2d. per lb. on all inferior lines. The sale will be continued to-morrow.

ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. GOOD SALE FOR WEST COAST LAMBS. (By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale yesterday:— CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. l(i. Beef.—A large yarding, comprising some -excellent quality. Despite the large entry the inarkt was fairly firm, especially for best sorts. Best steers sold to €27, prime €2t) 10s to €23 11s, medium €ll to €l9 15s, light and inferior €lO 15s to €ll 10s. Best cows to €lO ss. prime €l2 to .€lsl 15s, others •€9 to €ll 10s; best heifers to €l7 ss, prime €l3 ssi to €ls, others €9 10s to €l2 10s.

Store Cattle.—A small yarding and very nondescript sorts and very lew quotable lines were offered. A fair demand for dry cows from €1 5s to €0 15s, 2 year steers €6 to €0 10s; yearlings, mixed sexes €2 10s to €3 15s. No big cattle were yarded. Mutton.—The heaviest yarding for some considerable time, consequently the market was decidedly easier and prices went back’ to a freezing basis, ewes especially showing a big decline and freezing buyers were not very keen even at the prices, ruling throughout the sale. Best wethers 32s (id fo 34s 9d, prime 26 (id to 325, medium 25s (id to 27s till, lighter 23s to 255, ewes, best 27s (id to 325, prime 23s (id to 275, freezing ewes from 18s (id to 22s 9d. Lambs were also easier all round.

Store Sheep.—Another large yarding, mostly lambs, and despite the easing oi the fat lamb market all good sorts sold well at last week’s prices. The general tone of the market was firm. Best rape lambs to 255, good lambs 22s to 245, medium 17s to 21s (id, best wethers to 2(is; two tooths 20s to 235, s.m. ewes 21s (id to 255, old failing 10s fid upwards. A fair number of West Coast lambs were offered, and met with good sale, making up to 245. Some good wethers from Clmthams made from 23s to 20 s.
