General Smuts (Premier) was elected in Pretoria West by a large majority. So far the Government has gained nine seats from Labour. The polling generally is heavy. A STRIKE SITUATION.

Most of the miners of West Rand have resumed work in accordance with the Miners’ Union instructions, but the position is still complicated. Goldfinch has issued a statement that stocks of wool on hand on the ,31st. December, out of Government purchases were:—Australia 1,815,900 bales; New'Zealand, 768,242; of which there were in the United Kingdom, 1,013,133 Australian and 375, 636 New Zealand.
