Delightful weather and a perfect wicket marked the third day of the cricket match, England v. Victoria. The attendance was again small. Hcndren and Douglas resumed to the bowling of McDonald and Ryder. Hondren scored a single, and then gave a chance in the slips (when 265) blit he was again missed. When his score stood at 271, he was dismissed by a beautiful catch by Park in the slips, off McDonald. I Wilson waS out first ball. Dolphin opened by hitting two to leg, and was then clean bowled by McDonald, whose average at this Ime read (5 for 132.
Parkin followed, but Douglas played for the strike. Parkin scored four, bringing 408 up on the board. Grimmeit replaced Ryder. He got I Parkin leg before. On resuming, Hobbs and Douglas opened the bowling for England, Sandford and Mayne being the opposing batsmen.
Sandford gave a dashing display, and Woolley soon replaced Hobbs, wnile Fender came on in place of Douglas. This change Sandford welcomed, and he hit Fender over the fence, and then in two succeeding shots to boundary. Tn Woolley’s next over be hit ten off three balls. Parkin was then tried, and in his fist over he clean howled Sandford, whose score was 72, which was made in a dashing style. Ryder followed Sandford and exercised discretion in running between the wickets. Mayne drove Woolley to the boundary for a well placed four, and just ns he appeared to be getting '-ot be was bowled by Parkin when he had it, ached 33. The board now showed 2 for 103.
Park received an ovation, blit gave a poor display. He hit Woolley to leg and was caught by Fender. 3 for 111. Ryder was then joined by the Essendon colt, Davies, who gave such a good display in the first innings. Davies soon hit up twenty, mostly fine cuts, but was neatly held by Hobbs off Wilson ending a useful partnership, i for 171.
Ponsford began slowly. Ryder reached 51 by an off-drive in 115 minutes. Ponsford was then stumped by Dolphin off Fender, just before time, 5 for 215. Ryder and Keating played out time. The, Australian! cricltjeters arrived by the Manuka from Sydney to day They were met at the wharf by Mr F. C. Raphael (Chairman of the Now Zealand Cricket Council) and members of the local Association. A civic reception has been arranged to take place at the Town Hall to-morrow. The Australian Club has notified the Cricket Association of a elcsire of its members to assist in entertaining the visitors wnile in Wellington. Mr T.
