HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MONDAY, FEB. 7th

The Committee met at 7.30 p.m. Present: Messrs W .H. Shannon, (Chair-

man), Preston, Lloyd, Aitken, Toddeisen, Richards.

Apologies for absence were made for Dev. Purchns and Mr Bruce. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Canterbury Education Hoard forwarding form for hoarding allowance application to be filled in. Recent , being attended to. The action of tlm Chairman was approved. From same advising Committee to reopen school on Fell. Ist, -Deceived From same notifying appointment ot Mr V. M. Johnston to act ns temporary Rector.—Received. From Brunner Picnic Committee asking that usual arrangements for picnic be made.- Received. From Blackball Picnic Committee to same effect, for 19th inst.—Deceived.

From School Committees’ Association Christchurch forwarding proposals tor support. Received. in connection with the Chautauqua session, an application was made foi the school to lie closed during the msit , t . 0.30 p.m. each day to enable thenattendance. After discussion m winch the Committee expressed an opinion against closing before 3 p.m., tie acting Rector, who was present, and the Chairman were deputed to obtain further particulars and were authorised to net accordingly. The Acting Doctor (Mr Johnston) imported the school reopened on Feb Ist. Ml the staff were present. Mr Seebeck assistant master took up his duties. The roll number for the week was 301 and average attendance was 335.5; stating some small matters required attention. - Deceived. In connection with a number <>l small matters requiring attention it was resolved in view of repeated applications for the carrying out of these small requirements, that another letter he sent, asking the Board to give the Chairman authority to cniry out these small urgent matters at once. A. donation of £’2 2s was passed to the Board in connection with the excursion. The meeting then terminated.
