BOBBED HIS FIANCEE
YOUNG MAN’S MEAN THEFT
WELLINGTON, February 2. A young man, who robbed his fiancee on the day on which they were to be married and then absconded, was brought before Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M. at t|je .'Police Court yesterday. By name, William Patrick Carlson, he was charged with, that on January 24th. at Carterton, he stole the sum of £lO the property of Eva Margaret Max. and on the following day cash amounting to £9 belonging to the same young woman. The accused admitted the offences.
Suit-Inspector Willis said that Carlson was engaged to be married to Miss Max and lived at the residence of her parents. On the day prior to tile date set for the marriage Hie appropriated £lO from a. cashbox, and apparently returned about twenty-four hours later and took a further £3. and at the same time retaining the sum of £6, which lie was minding for his fiancee. A few days later he was located at Christchurch. Tn answer to the magistrate the accused said that lie had expected some money, from his father, and ns it was not forthcoming he took Miss Max s money. Carlson was remanded.
