Writing to the “Guardian” Archie Maclaren attributed the failure of bowling to fielding tactics. Bowling had never anv real live possibilities, and was further weakened by the wot st exhibition of catching in tests. More attention should be given to the selection of fielders and less paid to bowlers misleading averages. The Australians were a much finer combination than reckoned, and were ably handled by Armstrong. They had proved again that youth arid a little experience would always beat the over forty brigade.
