HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. [BY TELEGRAPH—PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Jan. 20. The High Commissioner cables under date London,,Jan. 15, as follows: MEAT. Home-killed meat is in larger supply, but prices are little altered. The average prices are:—Beef Is old per lb, mutton Is 9d per lb, lamb 2s per lb. New Zealand mutton and lamb continue in steady demand at maximum prices. BUTTER. More business has been done in Irish. New creamery is selling at approximately £l6 10s per ewt (3s per lb), Danish official quotations are lower, and butter for the United Kingdom is sold at £l3 6s per ewt (2s t.jd per lb) f.o.b. The Australian output is reported to be large, and shipments are heavy. CHEESE. The English demand ia improved, and lower qualities are firmer. Finest farmers is quoted at £7 10s to £9 per ewt (Is 4d to Is 7d per lb), Canadian (on ..pot) is practically cleared, and the demand is good at firmer prices. Quotations are :—White. £7 16s to £7 18s per ewt (Is 4i]d to Is 5d per lb); coloured £7 18s to .£8 per ewt (approximately Is 5d per lb); New Zealand (ex-Shrop-shire) not landed yet, is quoted at white £7 14s to £7 15s per ewt (Is 4Jd petlb), coloured £7 16s to £7 19s per ewt (Is 4jd to Is 5d per lb). HEMP.

The Manila market is quiet, and prices arc slightly weaker owing to the absence of buying interest. A nominal quotation is £57 per ton, by sellers. The New Zealand market is idle, and last week’s quotations arc nominally unchanged, with probable buyers at 40s to 60s below those figures. WOOL. The wool sales continue without much change. Bradford tops are neglected, and nominal prices are; 64’s, 4s 3d; 56’s, 3s 2d; 40’s, Is s'd. There is no improvement in yarn and piece goods.
