WESTLAND RACING CLUB.

COMMITTEE MEETING

TUESDAY, JANUARY 11th. The Committee of the Westland Racing Club met at the Club room it 8.30 o’clock. Present: —Messrs AY. E. Williams (Chairman), McGregor, Yarrall, Sellers, Fane, Mclntosh, Peake, Butlnnd, Thompson, Pritchard, Keller, Whiliey, Houston and Evans. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed. The Treasurer submitted a statement of the receipts and expenses in connection with the late meeting showing revenue, £4.570, and expenditure £3,606, leaving a surplus of £B<4, on the actual meeting. This was received as very satisfactory in view of the postponement which was necessary on the opening day of the meeting. The President eulogised the work of the officials specially mentioning Mr 11. Rutland, the starter, Mr AY. -T. Jamieson, gate steward, and Air AA. Pritchard, bird cage steward. A vote of thanks was passed to the Licensed AGctualleys for the donations contributed towards the cost of the AVestland c up, and to Messrs Mclntosh and Keller for collecting the amounts. A vote of two guineas was passed to the Ambulance Association, and seven guineas bonus authorised to the caretaker. It was resolved also to recognise the work of the ladies conducting the re freshment department. The following new members were elected:—Messrs AV. Ziegler, AV. Diedriehs, F. AVall, J. Oropp, A. Jamieson.

The tender of G. Howe for painting the roofs of the buildings on the course was accepted. It was resolved to proceed with the formation of the training track, and Messrs Whiley, Mclntosh, Thompson, Rutland and Houston were appointed a sub-committee in charge of the work. Additional labour will be engaged for the work.

The programme fcsr next Christmas was discussed and it was resolved to offer £2,100 in stakes—an increase of £3OO on the late meeting. An extra event will be run each day. Mr R. Fane intimated that he was leaving the district shortly for Canterbury, and it would be necessary to sever his connection with the Club. It was resolved that in view of Mr Fane’s lengthy and useful connection with the Club that ho be elected a life honorary member, and the wish was expressed that he would revisit the Club for the race meetings. Appreciation was expressed also of Mrs Fane's very useful services to the Club and subsequently their health was proposed liy the chairman. The health of visiting owners was proposed coupled with the names of Messrs Adamson Bros. The toast of the Chairman was proposed by Mr G. Adamson who eulogised Mr Williams 'or his great kindness to the visitors. Air Williams expressed his thanks for the kind remarks, and appreciated also the visit paid hy the Club officials to Mrs Williams on Christmas Day.
