The New Zealand Cricket Council met to-night and it was suggested on behalf of Palmerston North Boys’ High School that the Council should waive some of tln> rules of the Heathcote Williams Shield competition to allow the Waitaki Boys’ High School to play a challenge match with its 1920 team about the middle of February. It was decided to reply that the Council had no power to waive the rule which requires that one year’s team may not play after the resumption of school the next year.
It was announcei} that the Australian team’s two months’ tour of New Zealand would cost £2500 approximately, and it had been decided to allocatp the financial responsibility as follows: — Major associations £3OO each. Jlawkes Bay and Southland Associations 47200 each; Minor Associations £l5O each, The Council is to he responsible for the balance.
The following Associations telegraphed that they would guarantee the amounts asked for in respect of the Australia)) team’s tour:—Auckland, Wellington, Invercargill, Wanganui, and Palmerston. Martini and Taranaki South telegraphed that they could not find the guarantee. ft, was decided to cable to the Board of Control, Melbourne, that the tour had been arranged. The first match is to take place on February I, and the tour will end on March 29th; also asking if berths have been secured for the 27til inst. It was decided that a match ho arranged between a combined te.)in from the -Minor Associations against Australia, to he played in Wellington if possible, provided that the Associations arrange for payment of expenses of their players ai)d find the guarantee.
Mr D. Collins was appointed sole selector of the team to represent the Minor Associations. It was decided to hold over the drawing up of a detailed programme till replies have been received from all Associations.
UMPIRE’S DECISION
MELBOURNE, Jan 10,
The Ballarat match provided another cricket incident. Wilson tin: English vice captain appealed for leg before, against Major Street and the umpire declared him oqt. Wilson doubting the fairness of the appeal questioned Major Street was said the hall first hit the hut. Wilson then wanted Street to continue hatting, hut- the umpire refused to allow him.

The Rangitikei Nomads commenced he final match of their southern tour o-dnv, when tl.ev met a Canterbury
team, each side playing twelve men. Going in first, the Nomads ran up the big score 119—Collins 54, Arkwright 14, Blamiivs 12, Hindmnrsh S 3, Rernan 23, Foster 45, Cave 103. Gilmer 37, Banks 20, Cameron (not out) 20. Talltot took two wickets for 89, Thomas 3 lor 89, Allard 3 for 51, Martin 3 for 59. Canterbury have lost live wickets for 10fi runs —Woods 48, Crawford 17. RLCNKET SHIELD MATCH. WELLINGTON Y. AUCKLAND. WELLINGTON, Jan. ,10. Wellington’s second innings, produced 270. Remaining scores:—Burton, o. Player, b. Smith 60; Donoghue, Ibw. I) Smith 13; Gamut, h. Auckland requiring 442 rims to win sent Henius and Horspool to the wickets. At noon the score was none for 40. .WELLINGTON Jan 10. The Plnnket Shield match at Wellington has been concluded, victory resting with Wellington by a margin of 105 runs. Wellington resuming from an overnight store of 214 for eight wickets carried the score to 270. Burton’s total was 60, Brice 26, Middleton 5, Barclay not out 4. Requiring 442 to win Auckland vent to the wickets the second time. The first wicket yielded 48. when Hemu.s was howled by Brice. N. C. Sneddon and Horspool by a useful partnership carried the score to 151, when the former was run out. Smith joined Horspool and the pair were separated at 20,9, the latter being caught at the wickets. Smith continued to play attractive cricket and was well supported by Lusk for a time, hut the remaining wickets did not add much to the total which was 330 when the innings closed.

At the conclusion pf the game the Shield was presented to Brice, the W ellington captain, by the Prime Minister. TEACHERS MATCH. (Received This Dnv at 8 a m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 11. The New Zealand Teachers commenced a match at Petersham against Victoria Teachers. The latter, in the first innings, made 91. Bowling-Perry took six wickets for thirty-seven, Wnrd two for forty. New Zealand first innings 252 (Worker 147, Ward 30). Victoria in the second innings have three wickets down for 20.
BIG SCORING. (Received This Day at 8 a.m.) ADELAIDE, Jan. 11. The Sheffield Shield cricket match was continued in fine weather and good wicket. New South Wales in the 2nd innings have lost 3 wickets for 400 (Taylor 180, Bardsley 185).
