John Baddeley and Albert Willis have issued writs claiming five thousand damages for alleged libel against the “Argus” newspaper for allcgec libel contained in an article in conneetiin with the stewards strike.

Three persons wen* drowned at Stanhope while bathing in the Irrigation Channel. THE RAILWAY STRIKE. (Received This Day at 10.10 a.in.) ,BERTH, January 11. Mr MeOallum. Secretary of the Disputes Committee, made an offer that the railway strikers would submit the dispute to arbitration, in regard to fates if Government, would agree to grant an eight hour day. The Premier declined, stating the whole of the matters in dispute were within the jurisdiction of the Arbitration Court. The Government would not revere from this attitude.
