McLEAN’S PICTURES. “CROOKED STRAIGHT,” FRIDAY Mr McLean presents to-morrow night “Crooked Straight,” featuring Charles Ray at his very best. Ben Trimble, having saved’ up one thousand dollars, leaves- his homo town, Tilton, for Chicago, to make his mark in the world. Falling into the clutches of a confidence mnn t “Chick” Larrabee, lie is relieved of his thousand. Out of work and-penniless, Ben is one night standing gazing longingly into the window of a restaurant when ho is approached by Spai’k Nelson, a safe-cracker. Spark unfolds a wonderful tale of the wonderful riches derived from .safe cracking, and finally induces Ben to he his pal in trade. After ho has “worked” with “Spark” some time, Ben meets Larrabee and demands his thousand dollars. Chick refuses and Ben knocks him down. Larrabee learns certain of the partner’s plans and tips the police. . . . The next night, while coming to. visit Vera, Ben discovers tho crook. Larrabee, sneeringly tells Ben, that his past will he brought to light if he interferes. But Ben creeps into the Owen home in the still of night, relieves the safe of its coiitents, and lies in wait for developments. Larrabee arrives later and opens the.safe. Finding the money gone lie assails the old man and threatens to kill him unless the money is produced. Ben intervenes and.he and “Chick” have their second set-to.
