Reporting the details of the riot the police inspector at Broome states the Japanese allege that the Koepangers stoned the Japanese. ’Hie Japanese then collected 1000 strong, and armed with clubs, they began to search for the Koepnngers. In the melee which ensued, two Japanese were- killed and three Koepnngers were' badly injured. This morning the Japanese at Broome restarted l their search, and' they woundedl two Koepangers, and t\vo white men, who protected 1 the former, one white, being speared in the arm and' the other beaten on the head with sticks; After the Riot Act was read, all the whites mustered at the Police Station', and' armed' parties wore sent to patrol the various parts of the town visited h.v the Japanese mobs. Great flirbenrance was shown by the whites', for; although p'ractipallv all were armed, no shots was fired by them. The"report concludes: ‘‘lf tin's state of■ affairs continues, I fear more bloodshed. The Malays are- holding aloof; but they threaten to attack the Japanese if tho whites are further molested. Tile racial feeling between the Japanese and the whites is running very high. The former are claiming racial equality. SUGAR CROP.
